Most of the country defines metro areas in terms of entire counties, but in the 6 New England states they are comprised of towns.

The summaries here are for the portions of the metro areas within the state. These metro areas are as defined at the time of the census, April, 2000. To see the entities that make up the metro areas see the Bureau web page where they are reported. Most of the country defines metro areas in terms of entire counties, but in the 6 New England states they are comprised of towns.

The summaries here are for the portions of the metro areas within the state.
