MCDC has developed an sas/internet application that will display specified tables from Summary File 3 for a single geograhic area.
Called Summary File 3 (2000 Census) Table Generator,
the user can enter either the logrecno (logical record number on the sf3 dataset; to get this for any mo geography
use uexplore to extract logrecno, geocode and areaname from the mogeos dataset in sf32000.) Custom aggregated
datasets, like moschls (schools) and moslds(school districts), do not have logrecno values so user should enter
a SumLev code and then either a geocode value or the areaname.
A list of table numbers (i.e., P1 p7) can also be entered for display.
This application is the one used under the table-links in the dp3_2k profile reports which displays all tables at one time.
By clicking on those table numbers, it invokes the sf3tabgen application and passes it the necessary parms.
Results of this application should return most requests in less than 2 seconds.

Summary File 3 includes detailed population and housing information from the long-form census
questionnaire and provides data down to the census tract level for some categories, and to the
block group level for other categories. SF3 is often referred to as "sample data" because the
information was compiled from sample households that received the long-form questionnaire.
Overall, SF3 contains 813 detailed tables (484 population tables and 329 housing tables) showing social,
economic, and housing characteristics. More than 50 tables are repeated for nine major race and
Hispanic or Latino groups. Examples of categories in Summary File 3 School enrollment by level of
school (preschool through college) and type of school (public or private), poverty status by age and
household type, income data, language spoken at home, employment information, place of birth by citizenship,
home heating fuel, housing values, and much more. SF3 information is
available for many geographies, including counties, towns, minor civil divisions (townships), zip codes,
census tracts, and census block groups. Summary File 3 for Missouri was released on August 27, 2002.
Also see the U.S. Census Bureau's press release.
Demographic Profiles Derived from SF3, 2000 Census.
The Census Bureau released a series of demographic profile products in May/early June of 2002.
These products were in the form of Adobe Acrobat format print reports and corresponding data files in
comma delimited format. We have downloaded those comma delimited ("csv") files and read them in to create
the SAS data files found in this directory. The data parallel the information in the four DP reports.
Where the reports have a percentage value we have also calculated and stored those percentage values as
separate variables (which were not included in the csv files as distributed.)
What you can expect to find here are good general overviews of the geographic areas summarized.
Those areas are limited primarily to governmental units: states, counties, cities (places), MCDs, Congressional
Districts and Metro Areas.
U.S. State and County Ranks are available for all 400+ variables from the Demographic Profile Series (1-4) and are available
for extraction from SAS datasets in the MCDC UExplore application. See Counties and
States.
The Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis has developed a link which include tables of select indicators for Missouri Counties.
Many tables include data from the 2000 Decennial Census. See the
Library of OSEDA Data Tables.

updated data. The URL for the new version is mcdc2.missouri.edu/websas/geocorr2k.html.

population groups. Less important than in previous censuses because so much of the data here was already released as part of SF1. The special subgroups ("characteristic iterations") are represented on separate observations, identified by the ID variable CharIter. See our SAS format code showing the values of these codes. See the Census Bureau's SF2 page for more information, including access to the data via American Fact Finder.
Data for the population subgroups is only present for a geographic area if it meets the threshold criteria of at least 100 people in that category.
